Wales v Iceland player ratings: Swansea City ‘star man’ gets 10 as Craig Bellamy’s side win promotion

Wales completed their UEFA Nations League campaign with an entertaining 4-1 home win against Iceland to secure promotion to League A of the UEFA Nations League.

After falling behind in the 7th minute due to a strike from Andri Gudjohnsen, Swansea City attacker Liam Cullen struck twice before the break to turn the tide in the home sides favour.

Second half goals from Brennan Johnson and man of the moment Harry Wilson extended their lead, as the result coupled with Türkiye’s 3-1 away defeat to Montenegro being enough to secure promotion.

Here is a look at how each player performed in the final group fixture.

Danny Ward – 5

Ward made a couple of important saves and was relatively unlucky with the goal having made a great save to deny the initial header. He could have done better with the follow up but that’s being highly critical.

Neco Williams – 5

A quiet night from Neco who didn’t have a major effect on the game.

Ben Davies – 7

A solid defensive display from the Spurs man as he was shifted out to left-back. his 92nd cap levelling with great Neville Southall.

Joe Rodon – 9

The best defender yet again for Wales as he picks up his 50th cap. He has been a rock at the back so far during the Bellamy era.

Ben Cabango – 4

A poor night from Cabango as he struggled up against Iceland’s Andri Gudjohnsen. He appears to be Bellamy’s third choice option at centre-back instead of Chris Mepham.

Harry Wilson – 7

It was an unusually quiet night for Wilson during majority of the game but his technical brilliance was on full display for the fourth goal in what was another fantastic strike.

Josh Sheehan – 6

Sheehan done well recycling possession and done a good job of distributing some opportunities for Iceland to counter-attack.

Liam Cullen – 10

Cullen was the star man for Wales, firstly getting them level with a well taken header before having the awareness to be in the right area to give the side the lead. He even registered an assist with a brilliantly timed through ball for Brennan Johnson to extend the lead.

Brennan Johnson – 8

Johnson registering a goal and assist as he continues his rich vain of form. A pinpoint cross to find Cullen for the leveller and well taken goal for the third.

Daniel James – 6

A good 70 minute spell from James working really hard in the press with his pace being used to really put the opposition defence under pressure.

Mark Harris – 8

Harris done a really well leading the line and linking up with teammates to create attacking opportunities. He also worked hard off the ball being the trigger for Wales to press.

Joe Allen – 6

A second half substitute for Wales that helped them not only get over the line but cruise to victory in some fashion. When you’ve got an experienced midfielder like Allen coming off the bench its always a huge benefit.

Sorba Thomas – 6

Another second-half change and he did his role well hounding the visitor’s back-line not allowing them any opportunity back into the game.

Connor Roberts – 5

A late substitute for Wales to get them over the line.

Jordan James – 5

A late substitute for Wales to get them over the line.
