Dawes announced as new Bangor manager

Ian Dawes has officially been announced as the new Bangor City manager, replacing the departing manager Andy Legg, who left after the club claim he did not want to take on a full-time contract at the club.

Legg replaced long-standing manger Neville Powell this summer and made a raft of changes upon his arrival, including signing Daniel Nardiello, Brayden Shaw, Jordan Davies and Henry Jones. The club made a solid start to the new Welsh Premier League season, and currently sit fourth in the league, a marked improvement on last season’s struggle under Powell.

However, after the Citizen’s 4-0 away defeat to Cardiff Met, the club shocked the league and fans by coming to the decision to relieve Legg of his duties at the club. The club recently made their intention to become professional in the near future clear, and despite the fact Legg seemed content with the future plans for the club, it transpired that the former Llanelli manager had turned down a full-time contract upon joining the club due to personal commitments.

Dawes was rumoured to be the favourite to land the job, and Bangor have today secured their man. The former Liverpool academy coach, was Head Coach at Maltese side Floriana FC in 2012, a club formerly owned by Steven Vaughn Senior, whose son now holds the role of Director of Football at the North Walian outfit.

The new Bangor boss joined the club from English side Shrewsbury, where he occupied the role of Head of Youth coaching, a role he has held since the summer of 2014. The Citizens will be hoping to continue their steady progression under Dawes, as they look to reinforce themselves as a premier outfit in the division.

It is understood that Dave Allen will be in the dugout for Saturday’s Welsh Premier League match against Carmarthen, before Dawes takes charge of his first match against Ton Pentre in the Welsh Cup on December 4th, which is to be shown live on S4C.
