THREE North Wales teams to look out for in 2017

The year ahead promises to be another action packed 12 months of Welsh domestic football, and we’ve taken a look at three feeder league teams set to make waves in 2017.

Prestatyn Town

Few clubs have gone through more turbulence than Prestatyn Town in recent times. In October 2016 the club was dealt with a bill of £53,000 from HMRC, and faced extinction unless it was paid up.

Whilst some thought this would be the end of Prestatyn, they rallied together to raise the bill – and all while staying top of the table and unbeaten. Back in the black, the club look strong favourites to take the Huws Gray Alliance title and make a sensational return to the Dafabet Welsh Premier League.

With Caernarfon Town still well in the race to retain their league championship, the northern second tier is set for a fascinating finish in 2017.

Brickfield Rangers

Game On Wales’ Club of the Year 2016, Brickfield are one of the most ambitious clubs in the whole pyramid, holding a vision to enter the Dafabet Welsh Premier League by 2020. They run teams and community projects from ages of 5+ – but the next year may see their first team take centre stage.

The side, which includes Welsh Premier League veterans Terry McCormick and Michael Johnston, are currently top of the third tier Welsh National League Premier Division.

If they can hold on and earn promotion to the Huws Gray Alliance, they may make even more positive headlines during the year ahead.

Like Prestatyn, they face a fierce fight to take the title with a number of teams in the Premier Division having games in hand over them. However, Rangers have lost just once in the league this season, and look a force to be reckoned with in North Wales.

Glantraeth FC

Whilst they’re not a household name in North Wales, Glantraeth may become a better known side in 2017. They sit top of the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One by six points, with 10 wins 1 draw and two losses.

With an organised side including prolific goalscorer Corrig McGonigle, the club is attracting crowds of up to 100, which is no mean feat for a team in the third tier.

The Anglesey outfit have great form with a run of six games unbeaten, but will pushed hard for the title by the likes of defending champions Trearddur Bay United.
