EDWARDS: WE ARE READY FOR THE TASK AHEAD
Caernarfon Town midfield general Gareth Edwards has insisted that Caernarfon can cause an upset in the live derby match against Rhyl in the JD Welsh Cup match tonight.
They go into the game as underdogs, as they face the prospect of Welsh Premier League outfit Rhyl. But, it is a game that Edwards claims they are ready for.
The lads are feeling good and doing the right things in training, we are working hard and are ready for the task ahead. We’re looking forward to the occasion but for us, it’s just another game that we will go out to win.
It’s not just any derby match today though, it’s a derby match, under the lights and in front of the Sgorio cameras. But, Edwards insists it won’t affect the players as soon as the first whistle is blown and they just want to do the town proud on a special day for the club and area.
It’s great for the town of Caernarfon, the supporters and the Huws Gray Alliance in general. We know that on our day we can match the best of them in the Welsh Premier League, as can many of the top half of our league, we are representing the league and hope to put on a performance. In terms of the camera’s, as soon as you step over the white line, they won’t even be in our thoughts, we’ve got a job to do and the focus will be on that.
The club are always followed mightily by the Cofi Army, who will be out in force again tonight and Edwards claims they can have a massive impact on the side, with their tremendous support and even claims they will need their supporters come this evening.
They can be the difference, there is no doubt we are the underdogs especially with a threadbare squad, but these things can spur you on. The Cofi Army as always will be out in force, and as long as we give them the work rate, effort and desire they don’t care whether we win, lose or draw. We will be doing everything we can to ensure they go away happy, but we need them as ever to come out in their numbers to get behind us, they can be the difference like they have been in the past.
It hasn’t been an easy season for Caernarfon, who trail Prestatyn Town in the league and it isn’t the first time the sides have met this season, with Rhyl coming out 4-1 victors, however the Huws Gray side are out for revenge this time. Edwards insists they are much improved but understand the prospect of the task at hand.
No doubt! We didn’t play well on the day and let ourselves down, however, we are a much-changed team since then like they are. We are down to the bare bones on Saturday through injuries and lads cup tied however form goes out of the window It’s a Welsh Cup game, at home, on the TV and under the lights, we will make sure we are prepared and ready for it.
Form goes out the window on Saturday and Caernarfon and Edwards will be out to prove the doubters wrong this evening, as they attempt to topple their regional rivals.
