Reds earn promotion

Llanelli Town gained promotion to Welsh League Division One after their 0-0 draw v AFC Porth.

Andy Hill’s men finally secured promotion, sealing what has seemed the inevitable since the opening weeks of the season.

With the understanding that three teams are to be awarded promotion from Division Two this season, Llanelli can now not drop out of the top three.

Even if all the fellow promotion chasers win all their remaining games, and Llanelli lost all theirs, the table would read as follows;

Briton Ferry – 64 points

Cwmamman United – 64 points

Llanelli – 58 points

Pontypridd – 57 points

AFC Porth – 56 points

As a result, with six of their games remaining the Reds have secured Division One football next term.

In what has been an outstanding season, the club are yet to lose a game. After being resigned to Division Three football back in 2012, after the club went bust in the Welsh Premier League.

From Champions League football to Division Three, the club have secured two promotions in three years as they edge closer to top flight football once more.

Much of that has been down to the spectacular form of Lee Trundle up front. The former Swansea City frontman has notched over 40 goals this campaign, and has led the Reds to promotion.

With 18 points left on hand, Hill and co only need six points for the title. But, for now, the celebrations can begin.
