NEWFA U19s Cup: Flint U19s face off against young Saints

Flint Town United U19s are preparing for a semi final against The New Saints U19s in the NEWFA U19s Cup on Thursday evening.

And a win for either side will set up an intriguing final against gap Connah’s Quay U19s, who were awarded a bye into the final having reached the semi final.

Flint will go into the game with confidence, having beaten TNS’ highly regarded academy side three times already this season. Under the guidance of manager Adam Bailey, Flint have enjoyed a strong season, playing with a dynamic style to finish fourth in the league.

Flint’s finish, however was still ten points behind Steve Evans’ TNS U19s who finished second only to Bangor City. With the league title not to be this season, Evans told Y Clwb Pel Droed of their desire to go for a trophy and end their recent run of results against Flint.

“Flint have been our bogey team this season beating us three times. Twice in league and once in Welsh Cup deservedly so. We’re looking forward to the game, and will give everything to get to the final.”

While the home side will be the favourites based on past results, Adam Bailey explains the game will be difficult but with a plan in place and home support, Flint could set up a mouth watering local derby final against nearby Connah’s Quay.

“It’s a great opportunity for the lads to get into a final. The effort the lads have put in this season, they deserve some silverware.

We know it will be difficult against TNS having faced them three times already but we will have a game plan and we will be ready. We are expecting a big crowd watching so it should be a good game between two very good teams.”

The game kicks off at Flint Town’s Cae Y Castell ground for 7:30pm on Thursday 20 April.
