Shock at the Rock as Bala lose out to Druids

Barry Town United

Match week six of the JD Welsh Premier League started on Thursday evening and the two games that took place yielded two significant results.

Cefn Druids 3-0 Bala Town

Bala Town went to Cefn Druids to try and put a run of two consecutive losses behind them, but their woes continued as they slumped to a 3-0 defeat.

Both sides started the game well, but it was Druids who got the pivotal goal when Ilan ap Gareth sent a powerful shot past goalkeeper Morris.

Ashley Morris got a second thanks to a penalty kick awarded to the home side shortly before the interval, and although Bala tried to launch a comeback there was no stopping a determined Druids got their third via Nathan Peate.

The result is Bala’s third loss in a row and means they have conceded seven goals without scoring in two, a fact sure to concern Colin Caton who expects his side to challenge for Europe once again this season.

Barry Town United 3-1 Carmarthen

It was a birthday to remember for Barry Town star Kayne McLaggon as he went joint top of the JD Welsh Premier scorers table with a brace in his side’s 3-1 victory over Carmarthen.

Barry scored first via McLaggon but the lead was short lived when Jordan Knott equalised a minute later in the 17th minute.

The remainder of the first half was largely even as the South Wales rivals looked to establish themselves on the game at Jenner Park, but McLaggon got a second to give the home side the lead at half time.

The second half showed flashes of a way back for Carmarthen, but a goal from Callum Sainty sealed Barry Town’s second win of the season so far as the newly promoted side start to settle into top flight life.
