Cambrian & Clydach BGC host W John Owen Cup Final between Penydarren and Blaenrhondda

This season’s W John Own Cup final will take place at Cambrian Lakeside Academy (the home of Welsh League Division outfit Cambrian & Clydach Vale BGC) on Wednesday 23rd May with a 7pm kick-off.

The final will be contested by Penydarren BGC and Blaenrhondda AFC.

Penydarren have provided one of the stories of Welsh football this season. As well as winning the South Wales Alliance Premier Division and gaining promotion to the Welsh Football League next season, they also enjoyed a much-publicised run to the quarter-finals of the Welsh Cup and the semi-finals of the FAW Trophy. Blaenrhondda are also enjoying a successful season having won the South Wales Alliance League Division Two title in their debut season. Both sides are unbeaten in their league campaigns to date.

Premier Division champions Penydarren have knocked out AFC Butetown, Merthyr Saints and Clwb Cymric on their road to the final. Second Division champions Blaenrhondda’s run has seen them knock out three Premier Division clubs in Ynyshir Albions, Cwm Welfare and Caerphilly Athletic.

Penydarren were inaugural winners of the W John Owen Cup in the 2015/16 season, defeating that season’s Premier Division champions Trefelin BGC. Last season Cardiff Draconians lifted the trophy, defeating Ynyshir Albions, to complete a league (Division One) and cup double. A feat both Penydarren and Blaenrhonnda will set out to complete this season.
