Trethomas Bluebirds claims their first FAW Amateur Trophy after beating Denbigh Town 2-1 at the Latham Park.

First-half goals from Charlie Loss and Tom Rutherford helped the Bluebirds to victory with Ben Lockley’s goal acting only as a consolation.

A cagey start saw Denbigh Town start on the front foot but it was Trethomas who caused the early problems. Charlie Loss’ corner-kick caused problems with a free-header not taken. In the same attack, Gareth Tedstone had a shot blocked on the line.

Trethomas took a deserved lead through a nicely executed move. ,Thomas Gameson slid a the ball through to Charlie Loss who stroked it home in to the low right-hand corner.

Denbigh searched for a response and a string of corners but Ben Lockley’s header was blocked by the resilient defence of Trethomas.

A ball was played brilliantly across the box as Rutherford sticks his leg out at the back post as he fired home the second.

Trethomas could have sealed it with a third just a minute before the end of the first half but Alfie Jones fired his effort over.

Adam Raymond who got subbed on for the second half got interviewed with The Red Wall at the break as he said “2-0 is a dangerous scoreline, we’re attacking this end now as we have a few injuries so we now got to use the rest of the squad now.”

In the opening stages of the second Denbigh could have got one back as Pritchard had his effort saved by Williams to deny the north Wales side.

Alfie Jones for the Bluebirds had his effort saved by Aaron Jones who made a great stop to deny a third.

Denbigh kept on pushing for a goal since the start of the second half as they found a goal from a brilliant set piece delivery from Brown as Lockley headed in at the back post.

Brown was at it again as he forced Gareth Williams into making a great stop as he tried to chip the ball over the Bluebird keeper. The chances kept coming for Denbigh as Jake Walker had a great touch as he fires his effort just wide from outside the area.

Nathan Brown caused danger again as he had his effort to just wide near the end of the game as they looked for an equaliser.

As the whistle blew, the Trethomas players fell to the floor as the scenes on the touchline go mad. Despair for Denbigh as Mark Dunford’s side wins the Amateur trophy.
