Kevin Richards stands down from post as Ton Pentre manager

Kevin Richards has stood down from his role as manager of Welsh Football League Division One club Ton Pentre.

It comes three days after his last game when they suffered a 2-0 defeat at Ynys Park to relegation rivals Taffs Well on Saturday.

The Bulldogs have won just once this year and have lost four of their five league games.

He took over from Lee Phillips for his second spell in charge of the club 16 months ago after the Bulldogs were involved in another relegation battle.

Ton Pentre released a statement to confirm the news: “By mutual consent, Kevin Richards has stepped down from his position as manager of Ton Pentre AFC with immediate effect.

The club would like to place on record its sincere gratitude for his unwavering commitment to the Bulldogs.

Kevin will always be a club legend as both a player and manager, winning many league titles throughout his Bulldogs career. The club will now follow the relevant process to recruit the right candidate for the vacant position.

Ton Pentre are bottom of Division One with 10 games left in the league season. They finished 16th last season but were given a reprieve after Caerau Ely and Monmouth Town failed to obtain a Tier Two licence.

In his first spell in charge of the club he led the Bulldogs to five Welsh League Division One titles, plus two Welsh Football League Cups.

This weekend the Bulldogs travel to Windmill Lane to face Llantwit Major.
