Connah’s Quay Nomads taste defeat in Irn-Bru Cup Final

Michael Bakare celebrates in Scottish Challenge Cup final

Connah’s Quay have lost to Ross County in the Irn-Bru Cup Final.

Michael Bakare gave the Nomads a first-half lead but a performance from Ross County in the second half gave the Scottish Championship leaders gave them their third Scottish Challenge Cup.

Connah’s Quay were the first non-Scottish side to reach the Final after beating Edinburgh City in the previous round.

It was the Welsh outfit who took a first half lead through former Wrexham forward Bakare, and Andy Morrison’s men should have bagged another two goals before the break. First, George Horan missed a glorious opportunity from five yards out when he blasted over. Then, Andy Owens was made to rue his missed chance when he fired an effort right at the keeper when one on one.

The Nomads sat back on their lead in the second half, and three quick fire goals in the final 20 minutes, a brace from substitute Josh Mullin and a goal from Michael Lindsay saw the Nomads off.
