Aberystwyth Town re-appoint Matthew Bishop as manager

Aberystwyth Town have re-appointed Matthew Bishop as First Team Manager.

Bishop takes charge of his second spell in charge of The Green & Blacks, having managed them in 2016/2017.

The former Hereford assistant-manager is a UEFA Pro Licence holder which will help the club comply with UEFA Licensing requirements.

The 45-year-old has put pen to paper to a deal which will see him manage the club until the end of the 2019/2020 season. There is an option to extend the deal.

Club chairman Donald Kane spoke of the appointment on ATFC.org.uk, saying: “Matthew’s appointment is a huge boost to the Club as a whole. Not only will he be an integral part of the First Team set up, but also his Coaching expertise will be invaluable at a time when we are looking to develop the Academy structure.”

“We also hope that appointing a locally based Manager will be applauded by our supporters as we look to continue developing top talent through our Academy structure looking forward.”

Interim manager Gavin Allen will remain at the club, working under Bishop as assistant manager.

With four games remaining, Aberystwyth Town are chasing the remaining Europa League play-off spot. They currently trail Cardiff Metropolitan by two points.

Bishop’s first game in charge of his second spell will be against Llanelli Town in two weeks time. A win for Bishop in his first match would relegate the Reds.
