Cardiff Metropolitan claim Welsh Premier Women’s League Cup

Cardiff Metropolitan have won the Welsh Premier Women’s League Cup after beating Swansea City Ladies at Steboneath Park.

Alice Griffiths, Madison Schupbach and Olivia Thompson scored the goals to hand the Met the trophy. Katy Hosford did score in stoppage time to net a consolation goal for the Swans.

The Archers are now chasing a treble in the Welsh domestic system. They have already won the Welsh Premier Women’s League which has seen them qualify for the UEFA Women’s Champions League. Kerry Harris’ side are aiming to finish the season unbeaten, having not lost a game in the Cup or League this campaign.

After winning the competition, manager Kerry Harris said to Sgorio: “I think we played really well. Credit to Swansea they kept us going to the final whistle and they did give us a good game.”

Club captain Tija Richardson said: “ A quality performance tonight from this lot.   We are the deserved champions, what a win.”

The Cardiff based club have redemption in this competition having lost to Cyncoed Ladies in extra time last year.

They have a FAW Women’s Cup Final to look forward to next week when they face Abergavenny Town at Dragon Park in Newport.
