Relegated Darians confirm manager Jones to remain with club for next season
Aberdare Town have confirmed that manager Simon Jones, who was appointed last summer, will continue to lead the team in Welsh League Division Three next season.
A statement on the club’s website said: “it was felt only right by the Club’s committee to allow Simon the chance to continue his work”.
The Darians have endured a “tough campaign” in Division Two, where they sit rock bottom on 11 points – having won just three of their 28 games to date.
They were, however, able to record a creditable 4-3 win against sixth-placed Caerau Ely in their last outing, as they look to finish the season on a high note.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Chairman Garry Williams said: “Last summer Simon was given the unenviable job of trying to halt the slide of the team.
“Everybody went into the season with their eyes wide open that it was going to be a tough season and that relegation was a distinct possibility.
“To Simon’s credit, and that of the squad he has assembed – made up of predominantly of locally-based players – we have fulfilled our fixtures and at times put on some excellent performances, and it’s those that we need to build on now going into the summer ready to aim to bounce back at the first opportunity.”
The Cynon Valley side also confirmed that assistant manager Terry Fitzpatrick will remain with the club, adding “discussions are ongoing to increase the backroom team further“.
Next up for Aberdare is a trip to Parc Ynysderw to face ninth-placed Pontardawe Town, who were beaten by Cefn Albion in the final of the FAW Trophy last Saturday.
