Steve Cooper favourite for Swansea City job – reports
Former Welsh Premier League defender Steve Cooper is the firm favourite to take over Swansea City.
The Swans are on the lookout for a new manager after Graham Potter left for Brighton & Hove Albion last month.
Former Llanelli Town midfielder Leon Britton is one of the key men behind deciding the new manager and current England Under-17s boss Steve Cooper is the favourite according to WalesOnline.
The 39-year-old was a Wrexham academy product but failed to make an appearance. In what was a short playing career, he featured for four top-flight teams in Wales.
From 1999 to 2003, Cooper played for Bangor City, Porthmadog, Rhyl, and The New Saints. It was at Bangor he made the most appearances, making 57 appearances.
Embed from Getty ImagesHis playing career was short as he moved in too coaching. Cooper returned to Wrexham for three years in 2005 before becoming the manager of Liverpool’s for another three years.
Since then he has worked with the England Under-16s and 17’s. In 2017, he won the FIFA U-17 World Cup with England. He has coached players like Callum Hudson-Odoi and Phil Foden.
He could follow in the footsteps of Nigel Adkins, who made the transition from playing in the Welsh Premier League to management in the English professional game.
Cooper is the son of former Welsh football referee Keith Cooper, who previously reffed in the Football League and Premier League from 1975 to 1996.
