Boost for Baglan in Welsh League promotion push
HIGH-PROFILE early business has been the order of the day for Baglan Dragons FC ahead of the 19/20 season.
The Port Talbot-based outfit have been making waves in the transfer market in their bid to become the seventh club from the borough to join the Welsh League.
Baglan Dragons finished last season in sixth position in the South Wales Alliance Premier Division but will have designs on a promotion push in the forthcoming campaign after a fruitful summer.
Following manager Carl Clement’s commitment to the club for another year, the club has been bolstered by several new arrivals at the Evans Bevans.
Clement has added former Welsh League star Sean Cayford to his backroom team as the club’s new fitness coach, joining Stephen Lewis, Les Redwood and Rogan Matthews on the staff.
On the field, the most high-profile signing has arrived in the form of ex-Carmarthen Town, Afan Lido and Port Talbot Town centre back Carl Evans. The towering defender boasts a wealth of experience at the top level of Welsh domestic football and has long carried a reputation of being one of the most powerful centre backs in south Wales.
Joining him at the heart of defence will be Aaron Biddescombe. The former Tata Steel, Ynysygerwn and Port Talbot Town defender has committed to the Evans Bevans-based club for the forthcoming campaign and will be looking to form a solid partnership with Evans in the Dragons’ back line.
Further forward, the club has also announced the capture of Kieran Miller from Port Talbot Town. Miller was one of the most popular players with the Victoria Road faithful last season and will add versatility to a Baglan squad with eyes firmly set on the prize of Welsh League football.
The club has also added to its attacking ranks with the signings of strikers Shaun Best and Gavin Kinsey, both of whom have gained Welsh League experience with Trefelin and Afan Lido. They will lead the line alongside last season’s 35-goal hitman Jordan Evans who has committed to remaining at the club for another year.
Baglan Dragons tweeted earlier this week: “We are delighted to announce that Carl Clement will stay on as player manager after making a positive impact last season. The club are also delighted to confirm the addition to Sean Cayford to the coaching staff. Sean will work as a fitness coach and his presence and work within the club will be hugely beneficial. “We are also delighted that we have retained our star striker Jordan Evans for the coming season. Scoring 35 goals in 27 goals last season, this lad has some serious talent.”
Whilst Shaun Best has joined the club from Trefelin, as they continue to bolster their squad ahead of the new campaign.
