Welsh boxer Joe Cordina has called on the Football Association of Wales to promote Canton Liberal to the Ardal Leagues.

Cordina, who recently won the IBF super-featherweight title hails from Cardiff which is where Canton Liberal are based.

The FAW last week confirmed the membership of all 64-teams for the four divisions of the Ardal Leagues for the 2022/23 season.

Canton Liberal, who finished third in the Premier Division of the South Wales Alliance League were not promoted with the two spots reserved for winners Baglan Dragons and runners-up Cefn Cribwr.

Hawarden Rangers and RTB Ebbw Vale who finished fourth in their respective divisions were promoted however in different area associations.

Tweeting Noel Mooney, the CEO of the Football Association of Wales, Cordina said: “This needs to be looked into properly, to keep the leagues as competitive as possible & as fair as possible! all the hard work this club has done on & off the pitch. No back doors, no favours Just on Sporting merit this club needs to go up!!”

Cordina was adding to Canton Liberal’s statement published earlier this week that read: “We have no issues with the clubs in question and recognise all the hard work that goes into achieving a Tier 3 status. However there is a fundamental flaw within the FAW rules handbook and regulations relating to the pyramid structure.

We aim to rectify this with the support and full backing of the SWFA through the correct process and proper channels.

In the mean time we will continue with our preseason plans and look forward to working with all relevant parties to see the correct outcome prevail.

Hawarden, Ebbw Vale, Bangor 1876 and Seven Sisters Onllwyn were the four teams that filled vacancies left by other teams not going up or withdrawing in Penparcau’s case.
