Ammanford v Caernarfon Town talking points: Bradley and Mooney influential in five-goal rout for Cofi’s

Caernarfon Town equalled their best-ever away win as they dominated Cymru Premier newbies Ammanford.
Braces from Sion Bradley and Phillip Mooney, along with a maiden strike for youngster Harri Wyn, underlined the quality that Caernarfon have across the pitch.
Ammanford surely now face the real prospect of relegation, as they have yet to find a win in eight matches and really struggled to make any sort of mark on tonight’s tie.
One-way traffic
It was a night to forget for Ammanford, who now find themselves second from bottom in the Cymru Premier, as they did not register a single touch in the opposition box during the tie.
Ammanford set up on the night with a strike partnership that was left isolated for large parts of the game, as The Canaries dominated the middle of the park.
Caernarfon showed their attacking prowess and made good on the lack thereof from Ammanford, as they romped to a record 5-0 away win in the Cymru Premier.
Ammanford undone by an early set piece
Ammanford, who knew they faced an uphill battle against a red-hot Caernarfon Town side, did not do themselves any favours, as they committed the cardinal sin of conceding a set piece in a game where they were likely to find their backs against the wall.
The opener set the tone for the evening, as Ammanford conceded from the corner in the 22nd minute, courtesy of Phillip Mooney’s headed effort from Chris Marriott’s cross.
The Ammanford fans despaired as the defender leaped to head it home and confirmed that the boys in black and white were in for a tough evening.
Only Hollywell Town have conceded more than Ammanford’s 21 in eight games.
A difficult debut for Lucas Davies
Ammanford’s defensive problems went from bad to worse as their debutant centre-half, who signed from Haverfordwest County, was dismissed for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity and conceding a penalty as a result.
And it was Sion Bradley who netted the spot kick for his second goal of the game, despite Ammanford’s young shot-stopper Oliver Williams getting a hand to the strike.
The South West Wales side still had 30 minutes to play with a man down against a Caernarfon team that have been scoring goals for fun so far this term.
Caernarfon showed their quality
The Cofis did not let up as they put Ammanford to the sword with two late strikes from Mooney, who notched a brace from centre-half, and 17-year-old Harri Wyn, who made good use of his six-minute cameo to score his first goal for Caernarfon Town.
The gulf in class between the two teams was exacerbated by the quality that Caernarfon brought off the bench, as Matty Jones got himself an assist after entering the field with 20 minutes to go.
Caernarfon will need all members of their squad pulling in the same direction if they are to achieve their goal of finishing in the European Playoff places again this campaign.
Tough tests coming up
Both teams face a quick turnaround, as their next games take place in just four days, as the Cymru Premier really starts to gather momentum.
Ammanford travel to Barry Town, who have only lost once so far this season and are only second to Caernarfon in terms of goals scored.
The Canaries face an away trip to fellow northerners Llandudno, who have not lost at the Go Goodwins Stadium yet this term.
