Archers discover Women’s Champions League qualifying round fate
Cardiff Metropolitan Women have today discovered their opponents for the UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifying round.
The ties will take place on August 7, 10 and 13, with the group winners joining the 22 teams that were given byes to the round of 32.
The Archers have been drawn into Group 3 alongside Hibernian (Scotland), Pomurje Beltinci (Slovenia) and FC Nike (Georgia).
The UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifying round draw took place in Nyon this afternoon and the Welsh treble winners discovered their opponents.
Met will jet off to play all of their matches in Slovenia with Pomurje Beltinci being the hosts of their qualifying round group.
As well as facing the Slovenian champions, the Archers will also come up against Scottish Women’s Premier League runners up and Georgian champions WFC Nike, who are making their debut in the competition.
Kerry Harris’ side will be looking to reach the round of 32 for the first time in the club’s history, having only ever won twice in qualifying before.
Only the group winners progress to the knockout stages of the tournament to join the 22 teams which were given byes to the round of 32.
The Archers qualified for Europe after winning the Welsh Premier Women’s League title. They had a domestic sweep, winning both the League Cup and Women’s Cup, alongside their WPWL success.
