Ely Rangers appoint McCarthy-Campbell as new manager

Ely Rangers have appointed Stevie McCarthy-Campbell as their new first team manager.

He has been tasked with managing the club revival, following their relegation to the South Wales Alliance League.

McCarthy-Campbell will be assisted by Tony Barnett, who will take the role as assistant manager.

Upon his appointment, the Barry coach said:”I am very excited for this opportunity to build on my experience overseeing a successful youth academy.

“The committee are clearly keen to push the club up the Welsh League system and I couldn’t turn down the offer to be a part of this journey.

“With the wonderful facilities and support from an ambitious committee, the club has the foundations for the first team to progress up the Welsh League.

“Tony and I have been very busy in the last couple of days arranging a preseason schedule. We’ve briefly met the squad and cannot wait to get started this week.”

His coaching experience is predominantly at youth team level. McCarthy-Campbell coached the Under-19s at Barry Town United for the last four years. He will remain at Barry Town United as the Head of Youth Phase.

Away from Barry Town, he was also a coach at Bristol Rovers and Newport County.

He featured as a player-coach for Sully Sports. At Newport YMCA, he went from assistant manager in Division Two, before taking charge of the club in Division Three, guiding them to safety.He featured as a player-coach for Sully Sports.

His assistant Tony Barnett, possesses a UEFA B Licence. Barnett has more than a decade worth of experience. He was the Youth Team Manager of Ely Rangers last season. He played a total of 15 years with experience in the Alliance League with Barry Athletic.

Rangers were relegated after finishing second from bottom last season, bringing to an end a 22-year association with the Welsh League.
