Brecon Corries to join Mid Wales League
Brecon Corries have announced that they are are to join the Mid Wales South League.
They leave the South Wales Alliance League with a 9th placed finish.
Since their relegation from the Welsh League in 1998, Brecon have been playing in the South Wales Alliance and Amateur Leagues.
But now the Brecon & Radnorshire club will return to Central Wales, for the first time in 73-years.
A statement from the club read: “Brecon Corries AFC are pleased to announce that next season we will be affiliating back with CWFA where it all began back in 1946.
“This is a massive decision for the club who have spent decades affiliated with SWFA and contested many memorable and successful seasons in the South Wales Senior and South Wales Alliance Premier Division.
“There have been many lows but they’ve been superseded by the highs including spectacular JD Welsh Cup runs and some amazing battles over the years against some of the best sides in arguably South Wales’ toughest league.
“We’d like to thank everyone in the SWFA who have helped us over the years with a particular mention to Mr Geoff Buckingham and SWFA secretary Mr Mark Adams amongst others including SWAL committee members.”
Corries’ movement to the Mid Wales League, eases congestion of teams in the division, after both Caerau and Ely Rangers were relegated from the Welsh League.
The Mid Wales South League is the same equivalent to the South Wales Alliance League and is in the fifth tier of Welsh football.
