Barry Town United sign former Cardiff forward Eli Phipps

Barry Town United have signed forward Eli Phipps.

Phipps is the fifth summer signing at Jenner Park and is the first following their early Europa League exit to Cliftonville.

He had been a target for the club last year but a move failed to materialise, but now the former Cardiff City forward has joined the club.

The 21-year-old joins the Welsh Premier League club having spent the last season with Weston-super-Mare in the Vanarama National league South.

“He’s a good age and he’s already fitted in well with the group,” said manager Gavin Chesterfield after making another new signing.

“I think that the coaching staff and I will be able to get a lot out of him and hopefully help him improve and he can be a very productive player in a Barry Town United shirt.

“He’s got a good pedigree having spent a long time at Cardiff City and Colchester. I’m really looking forward to working with him.”

Phipps is a former professional of Cardiff City and played for the Bluebirds at U18 and U23 level.

He was later shipped out on loan to Gloucester City, before joining Football League outfit Colchester United. From there, he joined Welling. Phipps’ contract at Colchester United wasn’t renewed and in 2018, he joined Weston-super-mare.
