Former Aberystwyth midfielder Declan Walker joins Stalybridge Celtic

Declan Walker has joined Stalybridge Celtic, following his exit from Aberystwyth Town.

Walker, who was Aberystwyth’s club captain for the last campaign left Park Avenue at the end of last season.

The 27-year-old played boy as a defender and as a midfielder during his time in the Welsh Premier League.

He was brought back to the Welsh top flight by Neville Powell, having missed 18 months of football due to a knee injury.

Walker helped Aberystwyth reach the Welsh Cup final in 2018, in the same season, he scored an impressive 14 goals, despite playing mostly as a defender.

Before making over 100 appearances in the Welsh Premier League for both Bangor City and Aberystwyth Town, Walker was an academy product of Wrexham.

He made a total of 25 appearances from a spell with Wrexham’s youth academy to the first team in 2013. 

In May, Walker tweeted: “I’ve had two great years at Aber, now it’s time to see what the next chapter is.”

On Tuesday, he scored his first goal for the club in a pre-season defeat to local rivals Curzon Ashton. 

Stalybridge Celtic currently play in the Northern League Premier Division, which is the seventh tier of English football.
