Welsh international midfielder Angharad James has joined Reading after leaving fellow Women’s Super League outfit Everton last week.

The 25-year-old began her career with Arsenal, and, at just 16 years of age, she made her first appearance in the UEFA Champions League, featuring in the 6-0 win against Belarusian side Bobruichanka Bobruisk.

Haverfordwest-born James left the Gunners in 2012 to join Bristol City, where she would make 74 appearances in a four-year stint with the Vixens.

Speaking to readingfc.co.uk, the experienced international said: “Reading is a club that I have always had respect for.

“This is a step forward in my career and one which I am very much looking forward to.”

James won her first senior international cap at the age of 17 when, in 2011, she came on as a substitute in Wales’ 2-2 draw with Scotland.

Formerly on the books of Notts County and Yeovil Town, James becomes the fifth Welsh player to link up with the Royals, joining fellow internationals Natasha Harding, Charlie Estcourt and Rachel Rowe, along with under-19 international Lily Woodham.

The 74-cap international continued: “This move was about going to a club who would challenge me and take my game to the next level.

“Reading fitted that mould and more. Great things never came from comfort zones…I can’t wait to get started with this new challenge.”
