Keyon Reffell joins Barry as Tom Fry trials at Newport

Barry Town United have signed Keyon Reffell following his departure from Hereford.

The 28-year-old joins the Jenner Park club as their fifth signing of the summer.

The attacking midfielder rejected a new deal at Hereford, despite Marc Richards best attempts to keep him at the Vanarama National League North side.

He revealed he wanted to be closer to his family in South Wales, hence his decision to move to Barry.

“This move has probably been 10 years in the making, in the fact Keyon was recommended to me as an 18-year-old but for the right reasons the move didn’t materialise at that time, said Chesterfield to BarryTown.co.uk.

“To Keyon’s credit he has gone on to have a very good career to date and he now joins us with high levels of experience and much quality.

“He’s a great lad who will fit right into our dressing room and is a player I know our supporters will enjoy watching.”

Barry’s new addition had an injury-ravaged season last year, having been sidelined by injury, making just six league appearances.

Reffell links up with former Bulls teammate Callum Sainty, who had a brief spell at Edgar Street last season.

The former Martyr has previous experience of playing in the Welsh Premier League, having played for Afan Lido, Carmarthen and Port Talbot. In total, he’s made 44 appearances in the Welsh top flight.

In 2015 he left for Kidderminster Harriers, before moving to Merthyr Town and then Hereford.

With Reffell joining the club, one player who may be leaving the club is Tom Fry. Fry has spent this week on trial with Football League club Newport County.

Fry was on the scoresheet in County’s 4-1 victory over FAW Championship South side Undy Athletic, in a side which featured a number of trialists, including Wales Under-21 international Connor Lemonheigh-Evans.

No decision has been made on the future of the 22-year-old.
