Llannerchymedd demote themselves to Gwynedd League

Llannerchymedd have demoted themselves to the Gwynedd League after resigning from the Welsh Alliance League.

The Anglesey club have lost a number of members of last season’s squad to other Anglesey clubs.

They join the division they’ve been six years away from, having been promoted from the Gwynedd League in 2014.

Llanerchymedd had been in Division Two of the Welsh Alliance League with fifth being their highest finish in 2015.

Club chairman Elwyn Hughes said: “I, as chair, along with my committee made the decision after losing all of last season’s squad due to various reasons, some to past clubs, some to clubs of higher leagues and some to clubs in the same league,

“We as a club can only wish them the best of luck wherever they play, but as a local lad and proud chairman of this great club, I am asked by now ex-players, what’s happened to Llan FC?

“I understand this has happened at other clubs on Anglesey in the last few years and they pulled out of football for a season, but the players that left them clubs then, are the ones back there now.

“With the strong finish Llan made towards the end of last season, I naively thought we would have been pushing towards the top of the Welsh Alliance Second Division this season, but it would have been unfair to put so much pressure on the youngsters that manager Darren Hughes has signed and swayed us towards the Gwynedd League.”

Darren Hughes was appointed manager of Llannerchymedd, having previously held a number of roles in Anglesey. Hughes has worked with Amlwch, Cemaes Bay and Llangefni Town.

They drop into the Gwynedd League where they will come up against phoenix club Bangor 1876, former Alliance League Division One champions Glantraeth and last season’s winners Menai Bridge Tigers.
