FC Nomads of Connah’s Quay have withdrawn from the Welsh National League.
The Premier Division will run with 15 teams following their resignation from the league.
The club released a statement saying: Just to be clear FC Nomads has not folded we will just not have a team in the Welsh National League.
“Our New Vets team and the youth will still be playing at the cage.”
Premier Division rivals Cefn Albion replied: “It seems like a real shame not to be having you In the #WNLPD this season, always enjoyable visiting the cage. We hope to see an FC Nomads senior team competing again in our division in the very near future. Good luck with the vets and youth set up #WNL.”
FC Nomads have been in existence for a decade, following a potential merger between Connah’s Quay and Flint Town United, which failed to materialise.
Connah’s Quay Nomads continued on their own and have since been in European competitions for the past four years, winning the Welsh Cup and securing memorable European victories against Stabæk, HJK Helsinki and Kilmarnock.
In their first season, they won the defunct Clwyd League Division Two title, winning 20 straight games. They earned three league titles in as many years and made a quick rise, to Division One of the Welsh National League.
Having missed out on the title to Borras Park Albion, they came back and won the title in 2014, winning 20 straight matches once more and scoring 140 goals, conceding just 11.
Since 2015, the Nomads have been in the Premier Division. In 2016 they were crowned Premier Division champions but weren’t promoted to the Cymru Alliance.
Last season they finished fifth.
