Ten-man Barry Town spoiled Penybont’s Cymru Premier bow as they came from behind to secure a 2-1 win at the KYMCO Stadium.

Kane Owen’s penalty was cancelled out by Kayne McLaggon’s clever finish before a Jonathan Hood stunner sealed an opening day victory for the Linnets

The game – broadcast live on S4C’s Sgorio – was played in appalling conditions in front of a healthy crowd of 520.

Wales C international McLaggon had an early chance as weaved past the Penybont defence, but squeezed his shot past the post.

The Bont hit the crossbar after a quick counter-attacking move shortly after.

Matthew Harris fed the ball to fellow debutant Dan Griffiths, who saw his diving header graze the bar.

The hosts were given a real opportunity after being awarded a penalty, with referee Iwan Griffith adjudging Evan Press to have brought down Curtis Hutson inside the area.

Kane Owen successfully converted from the spot, sending Ratcliffe the opposite way.

Barry levelled minutes later however through the quick-thinking McLaggon. Hood split the Penybont defence apart and the forward finished with composure after side-stepping Rhys Wilson.

Jonathan Hood put Barry in front in trademark fashion. Clayton Green flicked a header behind to the former Port Talbot man, who struck a delicious half-volley past Wilson from 25-yards out.

The drama continued into stoppage time, as the Dragons received two red cards. Jordan Cotterill failed to clear a second ball off the pitch, as he was shown a second yellow.

Match-winner Jonathan Hood was also given his marching orders, despite being substituted.

Penybont were unable to make the most of the man advantage as they conceded defeat, failing to create any testing chances in the last five minutes.
