Barry Town United 0-0 Caernarfon Town: Stalemate at Jenner Park as Linnets stay top

Barry Town United and Caernarfon played out a goalless draw at Jenner Park this afternoon, with both sides wasting a multitude of chances, meaning the spoils were shared.

Momodou Touray returned for the home side and nearly made himself a hero late-on but squandered a great opportunity to win the game for Barry in the closing stages.

Jamie Breese had the best chance of the game for the Canaries, looking to dink Michael Lewis from inside the box but the stopper kept it level.

Barry looked to pierce through the Cofi’s defence with sharp passing, and their build-up play certainly looked capable of doing just that early on.

Cardiff loanee Sion Spence – making his first appearance for the Linnets – combined with Kayne McLaggon just outside the area but despite creating space for a shot, he dragged his effort wide as Barry tried to set the tone for the day.

The visitors instead tried to break with pace and numbers and were finding success on the wings. Arguably the best chance of the half went begging for the Canaries, as Gareth Evans weaved his way into the Barry penalty area only for his low effort to fly past the post from a promising area.

Spence was heavily involved in the first period and nearly found an opener with a header from the back post. A looping cross from the right found the late arrival Spence, who failed to guide his header between the near post and Alex Ramsay as the stopper collected well.

The home side looked for the long-ball at the start of the second period and found success with McLaggon’s pace in behind the Cofi’s back-line.

The forward burst into the area from the right after latching onto a ball over the top, slamming a half-volley towards goal but Ramsay was equal to it, pushing the ball away from danger down low.

Caernarfon nearly stole a goal moments later thanks to some complacent Barry defending, as a mix-up along the back line saw Jamie Breese one-on-one with Michael Lewis. The Cofi’s number nine tried to chip the stopper, but a strong hand meant that the home side were able to clear.

As chances continued to go begging for both sides, substitute Touray nearly stole three points for Barry in added time. A quick counter-attack found McLaggon on the right, as the forward once again used his pace to cause havoc for the Caernarfon defence.

Switching the play superbly to find Touray just inside the area, the substitute worked himself some space before blasting an effort well over the bar from a strong position.

A wasteful game that lacked a quality finish from the first whistle, the draw means Barry remain unbeaten for another week, and travel to Airbus Broughton next Saturday.

Caernarfon sit in 6^th as they return home to play Penybont next weekend.
