Cambrian & Clydach Vale 0-2 STM Sports: Sky Blues winless run stretches to five
Cambrian & Clydach Vale’s winless run stretched to five league games after the Sky Blues lost 2-0 to STM Sports.
Ben Ahmun provided the visitors with a 33rd-minute lead before Chris Worsley assured the Mellons were back on the winning trail with a goal not long after coming on as a substitute.
Dane Williams’ side have picked up just one point from the last fifteen available.
Each side had early calls for a penalty waved away with Josh Graham and Sam Johnson both going down in the box.
Ben Ahmun, unprovoked by the shirt-tugging of Andre Griffiths, was able to draw a save from Cambrian keeper Dan Bradley with a low effort.
The ball was in the back of the net but the linesman denied Leon Jacka, who had struck from close-range.
Cameron Keetch, unchallenged by the STM Sports midfielders, smacked a shot at Benjamin Boyer – who was tested for the first time.
Graham almost provided the game’s first goal as he rounded Bradley, but he was unable to complete the easy work as his shot rolled wide from a tight angle.
An unselfish Johnson squared the ball to attacker Sam Jones who squandered his chance by shooting straight at Boyer.
Cambrian were made to rue Jones’ chance as STM struck the first blow. Starting from their own half in a split-second, Ahmun showed composure to round Bradley and prod the ball into an unguarded net.
Bateman and Thoma Frick went near with two half-chances but were unable to add to the Mellon’s first-half lead.
STM Sports were forced into a change as a rare appearance from Tom Burridge was brought to an abrupt end, and he was replaced by Christopher Hajgato.
Cambrian’s Jones began to grow in confidence in the second-half, shooting just over the bar.
Despite a positive start, the visitors took an unassailable lead through Worsley, who, with his first touch, drilled home a volley following Graham’s initial shot with Bradley flat footed.
Cambrian almost drew a goal back from Morgan Graheme who saw his snapshot cannon off the post.
Boyer, who had a relatively quiet afternoon in the STM goal, was forced into a save when Jacka tested him with a far-sided free-kick.
Cambrian began to concede the game as spaces became open for STM. Bradley dived down low to deny Graham, who was in search of his first goal of the match.
Substitute Lamin Conteh spurned a late chance to assert STM’s authority as his dinked his effort wide of the goal.
Nana Baah’s side went unchallenged throughout the last ten minutes in a match contested at a fast tempo, decided by some clinical finishing.
