Remember the time one of the world’s most expensive footballers played at a Cymru South ground?

He’s been one of the star midfielders in world football and has been subject of interest to some of the world’s biggest clubs, as well as playing for two giants in his professional football career.

2018 World Cup winner Paul Pogba once played at Stebonheath Park – the home of Llanelli Town.

Eleven years ago, France U16’s beat Wales U16’s in 4-2 in a French side which included United talisman Paul Pogba and former Arsenal striker Yaya Sanogo.

He would be pictured alongside Cymru Premier stalwart Kurtis March, who was the opposite captain that day.

Pogba was to visit the town of Llanelli for a second time three years, having played for a young Manchester United side in a 2-0 pre-season win over Llanelli, in his first spell with the Red Devils in 2011.

The Manchester United side would also boast Jesse Lingard, who scored an FA Cup-winning goal, as well as playing for England at the World Cup. Former Cardiff City midfielder Danny Drinkwater who won the Premier League with Leicester City would also feature.

Pogba would also play at Bangor City’s defunct ground Farrar Road for Manchester United in the same year, lining up against Les Davies – a one-time European Player of the Year nominee.

He would have happy returns to Wales, winning 5-1 at the Cardiff City Stadium last season, as well as netting twice in a 3-1 and 4-0 wins over Swansea in November 2016 and August 2017.

Following his two outings in Llanelli, Pogba went on global stardom after his move to Juventus in 2012.

The 26-year-old won four Serie A title’s with The Old Lady, as well as a League Cup and a Europa League with Manchester United, following a reported £89.3 million move.

In 2018, he became a World Cup winner with France after beating Croatia 4-2 in the final in Moscow.
