Guilsfield’s Director of Football, Nathan Leonard has been appointed manager of Oswestry Town.
Leonard, a former player and manager guided the club into the upper reaches of the second tier for a number of years.
But now he has swapped Montgomeryshire for his hometown of Oswestry, where he takes charge as boss of the resurgent FC Oswestry Town in the North West Counties League.
Leonard takes on his first managerial role in that division with the club sitting top, following the shock resignation of Matt Burton earlier this week.
“I will miss everyone at the club. I couldn’t have asked for a better committee who backed me every step of the way,” tweeted Leonard.
“I will miss the dressing room, they’re a special group in more ways than one. On to the next challenge now.”
Ironically Burton was a former manager of Guilsfield in the years before Leonard took the role, and he actually coached the midfielder.
Now Leonard has the task of taking his home town club, who ground share with Cymru Premier outfit The new Saints, up the English football pyramid. However, he does leave a hole at the Montgomeryshire village club, having served as Director of Football more recently.
He stepped away from the management commitments, with Jason Brindley and Bernie Jones stepping into the role.
Leonard has served in the DoF role ever since and has been part of the club’s furniture in their recent history.
