Carmarthen Town 0-1 Caernarfon Town: Cai Jones snatches victory for ten-man Cofis

An 89th-minute strike substitute Cai Jones was enough for ten-man Caernarfon Town to secure three points against basement side Carmarthen Town.

Goalscorer Jones won a header in the fray at the back post and tapped the loose ball into an empty net to spark pre-Christmas celebrations.

Manager Sean Eardley shuffled his side to compensate for the dismissal of skipper Gareth Edwards. in the second half.

Bottom of the JD Cymru Premier League Carmarthen Town have failed to score in their last four fixtures under manager Kris O’Leary.

His side drew a blank once more despite creating a number of chances and having a man advantage.

The victory for the Arfon side means Caernarfon Town have lost just once in the last six games, scoring fifteen goals in the process.

The first half saw play congested in the centre of the field as both defences pushed a high line.

Both sides were guilty of not using the final ball better, striker Danny Thomas a niggling thorn which allowed fullback Nathan Craig to test Idzi’s agility.

Sion Bradley created space out wide and Rob Breeze put an excellent shift in as he moved across the pitch.

At the other end, young striker Bull drew a foul from Edwards early in the second half and played on this.

The captain’s dismissal fifteen minutes later for another foul when Bull was clear, allowed Jay Woodford, Carroll and accomplished teenager Alaric Jones space by which to play.

Jones made a return after four months out with ankle ligament damage working well in defence with his skipper Lee Surman to move the ball swiftly into an attacking foray.

Idzi was called upon again to save from a Craig freekick, Leo Smith dragging an opportunity across the goal for the Canaries as time ebbed away.

Bradley also stood tall as his side were looking to play out the game.

The better of the chances fell to Jones, one rifling shot knocked away for a corner and then the opportunity to win the game, which he gleefully welcomed.
