Tier Two and Three: Clubs submit applications

Clubs from across Wales have applied for the compulsory Tier Two and Three licences.

It is the second year that Tier Two has required licensing and the first time for clubs competing in the third tier.

Fifty-four clubs have applied to play in the JD Cymru North and South.

All 33 JD Cymru North and South clubs have applied to retain their place in the second tier. A total of 21 tier three applicants from North, Mid and South Wales have applied to compete in the second tier.

Ninety-three clubs from across Wales have applied for the FAW Tier 3 Certification which would allow them to compete in the third tier.

Fifty-four teams currently play at Tier Three, with 15 clubs coming from the Welsh League, 14 from the Mid Wales League, 11 from the Welsh Alliance and 14 from the Welsh National League.

Tier four clubs who will be competing for promotion to the third tier will not only need to win on sporting merit but also achieve the Tier Three certificate.

Clubs from Tier Five have also been given the opportunity to express their interest in joining the new pyramid system.

A successful licence application alongside a number of rejected applications from higher tier clubs could result in a promotion.

Fan-owned club Bangor 1876 – currently leading the Gwynedd League by seven points – haven’t applied from the fifth tier.

Instead Nefyn United with three games in hand over Bangor, have applied.

Glantraeth – 2016/17 Welsh Alliance League Division One champions – are the other application from North Wales.

Baglan Dragons, Canton Liberal, Cardiff Draconians, Pencoed Athletic and Porthcawl Town Athletic of the South Wales Alliance League have also applied.

Gwent County League duo Abertillery Excelsiors and Blaenavon Blues have stated their interest.
