Barry Town United 0-1 Connah’s Quay: Wilde strike puts Nomads point off the top

Connah’s Quay move to within a point of top spot as they narrowly defeat ten-man Barry Town United at Jenner Park.

Mike Wilde’s second-minute strike was the solo goal which separated the two in a closely-fought encounter.

Barry’s Kayne McLaggon was given a straight red cards the hosts battled for an hour with a man light.

David Cotterill made his Barry debut, more than two years on from his last appearance for Birmingham City in November 2017.

The Nomads continue their unbeaten record in South Wales under Andy Morrison.

Barry sit in fourth from the defeat and are four points off of Bala.

Connah’s Quay dominated proceedings in the first-half but were made to wether a Barry storm in the final quarter of the match.

The Nomads continued to show their title credentials by batting against the resolve of Barry.

Connah’s Quay opened the scoring from their first attack.

Declan Poole’s heel kick at goal from Jamie Insall’s low cross was blocked by Mike Lewis.

From the same attack, Michael Bakare’s low-driven shot outside the box deflected off of Wilde for the games only goal.

Insall’s full-blooded tackle got the Nomads going and Craig Curran’s dinked effort was blocked by Mike Lewis.

The Nomads had a similar opportunity as Callum Morris dispossessed Jordan Cotterill in the middle of the park and fed Curran who hit a shot into the stanchion.

David Cotterill’s entered the Jenner Park pitch just after the hour mark as he made a playing return after a two-year and two-month exile from football.

Cotterill made an impressive start as he forced Lewis Brass to push a far-sided free-kick away from his goal.

The Wales international then had a free-kick central of the box blocked, as he looked to inspire Barry with his experience.
