Cardiff Metropolitan 1-1 Airbus UK: Wingmakers hold play-off chasing Met at Cyncoed Campus

Airbus fell further behind their relegation rivals despite battling to a 1-1 draw with play-off chasing Cardiff Metropolitan.

The Wingmakers are four points from safety after wins for Carmarthen Town and Penybont.

Met benefited from Carmarthen’s victory as they lead the play-off conference by a point.

Both sides were limited due to the difficult weather conditions but Met feel like they should have had more from the game, however a draw was a fair reflection.

Niall Watson put the bottom side ahead in first-half stoppage time as he opened his account for the club following his January move from Accrington Stanley.

Mael Davies opened his account for Phase Two as he put the hosts on level terms early in the second-half.

From the kick-off, Airbus pumped ball forward sailed for a throw-in, previewing what kind of game would be competed.

Mael Davies and Will Evans were shown cheap yellow cards early in the first quarter.

Jake Phillips trademark throw almost provided an opening for the visitors, skipper Stephen Tomassen was unable to get a strong touch at Fuller.

Sam Hart made crucial interception to deny an almost certain goal for Met as he put his leg in the way of Mael Davies’ attempted pass across goal to Eliot Evans.

With half-time looming, Niall Watson was in a fortunate position to stroke a low shot past Fuller with a crucial strike.

Met came out of the changing rooms at full speed and levelled procceedings not long after the restart.

Eliot Evans played a pass-through to Mael Davies on the flank and the Met midfielder blasted his shot past Byrne at his front-post.

Eliot Evans failed to take a good opportunity presented to him as he shot his volley over from a Will Evans cross.

Byrne was forced into action twice in the same attack as Met tried to seize the initiative.

Eliot Evans forced Byrne to parry his tight-angled shot with the ball dropping to Will Evans on the opposite flank, Byrne was alert to save the second shot.

Emlyn Lewis then got into space as Dylan Rees’ free-kick avoided everyone , just the Met defender couldn’t turn in his opportunity.

Met had to be alert though as Airbus almost snuck in front. Will Fuller had to tip Ryan Edwards’ snapshot over the bar to keep the scoreline level.

Cardiff Met almost used the wind to their advantage as Eliot Evans’s cross dipped into a shot.

Neither side could find the net for a second-time as the two played to a draw at Cyncoed Campus.

Airbus have a weeks break after being knocked out of the Welsh Cup whilst Met travel to Deeside Stadium to face Cymru Premier leaders Connah’s Quay in the quarter-finals.
