Swansea University issue statement after unsuccessful Tier One Licence appliation
Swansea University have issued a short statement after failing to attain the Tier One licence.
The Students will remain in the Cymru South for the 2020/21 season after failing on appeal to reach the necessary criteria to compete in the Cymru Premier.
No decision has been made on how the Cymru South could conclude but second-placed Haverfordwest County could take their place in the Welsh top flight after securing the licence.
“As a club we are disappointed to have had our application for a Tier 1 Licence rejected by the FAW on appeal,” said a statement released on social media.
“The success on the field, from past and present students, during our eight-year journey through the Swansea & District and Welsh Leagues to the top of the new JD Cymru South, is nothing short of remarkable. We are so proud of so many.
“Whilst we are a relatively young club, we believed that all our work and planning in preparation for a Tier 1 Licence, coupled with our clear commitment to success and pre-application discussions with the FAW, would have merited a successful license application.
“Sadly this has not been the case on this occasion.
The statement then goes on to reflect on the success that the club has had over the course of this season having been first in the Cymru South by a point before football was halted due to the coronavirus pandemic.
To be top of our League with only a few games to play in our first season as a Tier 2 club and undefeated against the top six clubs, has taken a staggering effort from all the players and staff.
“All involved have represented the University impeccably. The Club and University will learn from the process and return stronger on and off the field next year.
“Many thanks to the group that helped the Club this year with the licensing process.
“Our current intention is to achieve both a Tier 1 license and league promotion in time for the 2021-22 season.”
