Swansea City crowned champions of the Welsh Premier Women’s League

Swansea City have been crowned champions of the Welsh Premier Women’s League after the season was curtailed.

They claim their first league title since 2017 after rivals Cardiff Metropolitan won the league for back-to-back years.

The Swans will take part in the 2020/21 Champions League as a result of winning the league.

“Everyone has worked hard all season to achieve this, so I am delighted for all the players and staff,” said Owen to SwanseaCityFC.com as they celebrated title glory.

“Obviously we would have liked to finish the league with all games being played out, but I think the FAW have made the right decision to conclude the season.

“The safety of everyone involved is the most important thing.”

“To represent Swansea City and Wales in Europe once again is an honour so we will try to make everyone proud.”

Also basking in the glory was Swansea City skipper Alicia Powe as she spoke of her delight of winning the WPWL title.

“This year has been great for us as a club. Team morale has been high since day one and this has shown on and off the pitch,” said Powe to SwanseaCityFC.com.

“It’s a fantastic feeling to know that all the hard work and commitment from the squad has paid off and we can now use this experience going forward.”
