Owen Beck: Youngster signs first pro deal with Liverpool

Welsh defender Owen Beck has signed his first professional contract with English giants Liverpool.

The 17-year-old has featured in all but one game for the Reds in this season’s U18 Premier League.

Beck, who plays as a left-back, has been with the club for the last four years after joining from Stoke City as an under-13 player.

The youngster, who hails from Bodelwyddan in Denbighsire, is able to call Welsh legend Ian Rush his great uncle, with the former Liverpool and Wales striker presenting him with the Flintshire Footballer of the Year award when he was 10 years of age.

In a campaign where he has been able to demonstrate his qualities, he netted a stoppage time winner in Liverpool’s Premier League Cup game against Southampton.

As well as featuring in the EFL Trophy and FA Youth League, Beck was also part of the Reds’ U19 squad which finished top of Group E in the UEFA Youth League, winning four of their six matches.

He has been likened to a modern-day full-back who, while being aware of his defensive duties, is trusted to get forward and support his team in attack when the opportunity presents itself.
