Prestatyn Town: Merseyside investor Welsh replaces outgoing Colakoglu as Seasiders chairman

Prestatyn Town chairman Neal Colakoglu has stepped down from his role at the Seasiders, with Merseyside-based investor Jamie Welsh taking over as of today.

Colakoglu cited ‘personal circumstances’ as his reason for departure in a club statement, with Welsh now responsible for bringing in financial investment.

The news comes after Town were awarded their third Cymru North title following the curtailment of the season, and Welsh is looking forward to building on the opportunity given to him.

“I would like to thank Neal and his fellow directors for giving me this fantastic opportunity,” he said.

“The club has real potential and I look forward to fulfilling that potential. It’s obvious to see that we have a fantastic team on the pitch and the best manager in Wales.”

Whilst the club has found success in the Cymru North, they have accepted that they will not be heading into the JD Cymru Premier for next season.

The Seasiders failed to meet the criteria necessary for promotion despite appeal, with a TV Gantry considered unsuitable by the Football Association of Wales.

Looking at his future plans for the club, Welsh added: “It’s unfortunate, although not confirmed yet, that we will be playing in the Cymru North next season.

“I met with the players last night to outline the club’s plans in the short and long term and I now look forward to helping Neil Gibson and the team go out and win the league again.

“These lads and the club deserve to be playing at the highest level. Over the next couple of days, the club we will be announcing how I plan to restructure the club off the field, lastly all I can say is ‘We Are Town’.”
