Shrewsbury Town have released Newtown forward Lifumpa Mwnadwe whilst retaining ex-Robin Ryan Sears.

The League One club announced their retained list today following the curtailment of the 2019/20 season earlier in week.

Two names on the list had a connection to JD Cymru Premier club Newtown, both had loan spells at Latham Park.

Lifumpa Mwandwe, the most recent loanee with the Powys club made 24 appearances for the Robins in this campaign, scoring three goals.

Mwandwe, 21, spent seven years with Shrewsbury, playing for a number of their age group teams.

His key moment at the New Meadow was an appearance in the Checkatrade trophy in October 2017.

“I’d like to thank all the players for their professionalism and hard work this season,” said Shrewsbury boss Ricketts who was speaking about the releases.

“This was instrumental in the success of this campaign and we wish them all the best in their future ventures. They will always be part of the Salopian family.”

One player who will remain with the Shropshire club is Ryan Sears, a former loan player of Newtown.

Newtown born Sears, joined Shrewsbury in 2016 from his hometown club.

He returned to Newtown in 2017, making 31 appearances for the Welsh side.

The 21-year-old spent a majority of the last campaign injured after sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament injury in training.

Before his injury, he had spent time on loan at AFC Telford United, playing six times.

Sears featured five times for the  Shrewsbury’s first-team, who are managed by former Wales defender Sam Ricketts.

After returning from his injury, he joined Telford on loan again, featuring in their 3-1 win over Kettering, before the season was curtailed.
