Announcement on promotion and relegation expected imminently

A decision on whether promotion and relegation will be implemented is expected to be announced shortly according to reports.

The Welsh domestic season was curtailed on May 18 with the FAW crowning a number of champions on a points-per-game basis.

However promotion and relegation wasn’t ratified when the decision to end the seasons was announced.

But now clubs could receive some clarity into who is going up and who is going down with an announcement expected imminently.

A range of sources have revealed that a decision could be made, including a club who are waiting to see if their league title success will also result in a promotion.

Mid Wales League club Llanidloes – crowned champions of the third tier – say an announcement could be made either today or tomorrow. 

Dai Sport football journalist Matthew Burgess is of the belief that the Cymru Premier will temporarily expand to 14 teams with no teams relegated from the 2019/20 season.

This will see Haverfordwest County and Flint Town United promoted after the two sides who both finished second in their respective divisions, attained the Tier One Licence. 

Grassroots North Wales, run by former Daily Post journalist Dave Jones, backs up Burgess’ claims by saying that Flint Town United are expected to be part of the 14-team division. 

In another report, Dean Jones of the North Wales Chronicle said that promotion and relegation is a strong possibility with the FAW planning to confirm the decision this week.

Continuing in the report, a formal announcement is set to be made on June 17. 

No official statement has been made by the FAW in relation to this and any decision will be announced by the governing body first as Welsh football chiefs meet today to make a key ruling on the future of the game.

As well as sporting merit, any promotion and relegation will also hinge on licensing decisions. 

Tier One and Tier Two licensing outcomes have already been decided, however, Tier Three is still to be decided after clubs were granted an extension from the April 30 deadline.

A number of clubs have had their grounds inspected this week and a decision on those inspections is expected to be announced on June 25.

Clubs will have the right to appeal against any decisions with a final decision on July 10.
