Why Nathaniel Jarvis signing is a big coup for Barry Town United as they begin to improve squad ahead of next season?
Barry Town United recently announced the signing of former Cardiff
City forward Nathaniel Jarvis as they continue to be a big pull factor for players.
The Linnets announced the signing of the 28-year-old yesterday and is a
massive boost for Gavin Chesterfield’s side ahead of next season after the current campaign was halted due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Jarvis is relishing the challenge of playing in the JD Cymru Premier League
under Chesterfield next season and revealed how he persuaded him to join the club when speaking to the club website.
“It’s his drive and hunger to compete at the highest level and compete
in Europe regularly,” he admitted.
“He has assured me that he’s the manager to play to my strengths. I’ve
been to places where I’ve had to stamp my authority or show what I’m good at, as some managers haven’t known what sort of player I am or what I need around me to get the best out of me.
“But I think a lot of the players that he has assembled at Barry will
compliment me quite well.”
He isn’t shy of goals, either. During his two seasons in the National League
South with Chippenham Town, he bagged an impressive 20 goals in 18 games.
The forward is also looking forward to playing in front of the Barry Town
United faithful, when fans are allowed to attend games again, amid the
coronavirus outbreak.
“I am delighted to have signed for the club,” revealed Jarvis.
“It’s been a long time coming, but it is finally done. I’ve come here to win, to play in Europe, and to score goals.
“It won’t be long until the fans will be back at Jenner Park after such a tough few months with regards to Covid-19. Be safe and I look forward to seeing you soon.”
He will no doubt add a new element to the Linnets attacking-line and will
link up with the likes of Jordan Cotterill and Kayne McLaggon at Jenner Park.
This is no doubt another big statement from the club, after managing to
convince former Swansea City and Birmingham City winger David Cotterill to sign for the club, back in January of this year.
Due to the cancellation of the season in May, Barry Town United were awarded a spot in the UEFA Europa League for the second consecutive season following their fourth-place finish overall in the Welsh top-flight.
That is clearly working in their favour in terms of attracting these types
of players to the club, and signing a player of Jarvis’ quality shows the intent of the club and that they’re moving in the right direction to consistently compete with clubs like Connah’s Quay Nomads and The New Saints.
The Linnets also announced the signing of Curtis Jemmett-Hutson from Penybont earlier today, their second signing in consecutive days. The winger briefly had a spell at the club during the 2014/2015 campaign.
Speaking of his move back to the Vale of Glamorgan outfit, he described his excitement of returning to the club and revealed what he can bring to the side when the new season gets back up and running.
“Everything that is going on at the club at the moment is really exciting. There is a lot of ambition,” he said, speaking to the club website.
“I believe in Gav’s vision for the future and feel I have a place in that. I think I can bring a different element to the team that’s not there at the moment. It will be exciting to be around people who can challenge me and get the best out of me.”
