Barry Town United loanee Momodou Touray is one of five players not to be offered a new contract by Newport County.

Striker Touray spent the last two seasons on loan at Barry Town, where he scored 15 goals in 48 Cymru Premier games.

The 20-year-old was named ‘Young Player of the Year’ in Wales’ top flight at the end of the 2018-2019 season.

However, Newport have announced they will not be offering new deals to Touray and the rest of those out-of-contract this summer due to the impact of COVID-19.

Penning a statement on Twitter after his departure was announced, Touray said: “My time at Newport County has now unfortunately come to an end.

“I just want to first of all thank all the players, staff and the managers that’s been involved in the last four years for helping me in the academy, to getting my first professional contract and also making my League Two debut.

“I’ve learned a lot and had some unbelievable memories.

“Newport County is a family club and that’s all thanks to all the fans connected with the club.

“Now it’s time to move on to a new chapter in my career. I wish the club all the best in the future.”

During his time at Barry, Touray would train during the week with the League Two outfit before playing for the Dragons.

Jamille Matt, also a player released by the club, predicted in September that Touray had a big future ahead of him in the game.

Now both Touray and Matt will have to find new clubs following their exits from Rodney Parade.

Also, out-of-contract with the Exiles is defender Jay Foulston who made 25 appearances on loan at Chippenham Town last season.

Commenting on his departure from Newport, Foulston tweeted: “I’m absolutely gutted my time at Newport has come to an end, but would like to thank everyone at Newport from the academy right the way through to the first team for everything they have done.

“The last five years have been an absolute pleasure and I would like to thank all the staff, players and fans for the support they gave me while at Newport and wish the club all the very best in the future.”
