A number of Scottish Premiership clubs are lining up a move for Wales international George Williams, according to reports.

It was confirmed earlier this month that Williams had been released by Forest Green Rovers, along with several first-team players whose contracts expire this summer.

The 24-year-old, who was part of the Wales squad who reached the semi-finals of Euro 2016, is now on the lookout for a new club after parting ways with the League Two outfit.

And the Daily Record claim Williams is wanted by several teams in the Scottish top flight, with Kilmarnock, Livingston and Ross County all reportedly interested in landing the Welshman.

Williams, who has already spent time in the Scottish Premiership following his loan spell with St Johnstone in 2018, could return to the division next season with one of the Saints’ rivals.

The seven-capped international endured an injury-plagued campaign last season after being stretchered off after just 120 seconds during Forest Green’s League Two opener against Oldham Athletic in August.

It saw the midfielder, who netted nine goals during his time at the club, remain sidelined for six months, limiting him to just four appearances.

He returned to action in February before the League Two campaign was curtailed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Williams, who was handed his senior Wales debut by Chris Coleman in 2014, will no doubt have ambitions of receiving a call-up by Ryan Giggs.

And a move to Scotland could allow the former Fulham midfielder to rekindle the spark that got Wales fans excited about him during the early stages of his career.
