Phil Hudson and Tommy Holmes become managers of Ruthin Town

Phil Hudson and Tommy Holmes have become the new management staff at Ruthin Town.

The pair are leaving Brymbo to take up the vacancy at Ruthin which was left by Chris Hardy in June.

During their time with the Steelmen, the pair won the Wrexham National League Division 1 Title, and also came within goal difference of promotion to Tier 2.

In their latest campaign, Brymbo managed a sixth place finish in the Welsh National League Premier Division.

The Steelmen finished with 1.78 points per game, having recorded 32 points from 18 games.

Departing Brymbo for the Memorial Playing Fields, Phil Hudson said, “I’ve had a wonderful three years and I feel the club is now a part of me.

“But football is about opportunities and we feel we can’t let this opportunity go,” revealed Hudson.

“So we’re going to go and give it a shot.

We are delighted to take up this opportunity to come and work with this talented  young group.

“We can’t wait to get hands on once we are allowed to do so. I look forward to speaking to all the players and getting their views on things.

We believe we are a good management team and we will give it everything we have to make it a success.”

Upon the announcement, Hudson tweeted, “This has been the hardest decision of my life, but it’s with deep regret I have ended my reign as Brymbo manager.”

Hudson then thanked “the players and commitee for all their hard work and commitment during the last three seasons.”

“I feel like Brymbo is a part of me and it’s the first result I check on a Saturday afternoon,” he added.

After securing their top target, Ruthin’s club chairman Alan Jones said: “Phil Hudson is clearly a talented manager and a B licence coach whilst Tommy Holmes played for TNS for over 15 years and is currently undertaking his B licence. Their record is excellent and they both come highly recommended.

“We believe that they have taken on board what we are trying to do at Ruthin and we are delighted that they have decided to join us.”
