Porthcawl Town Athletic appoint Downes and Walker

Kevin Downes and Ray Walker have been appointed joint mangers of Porthcawl Town Athletic.

The pair replace Barrie Jones who stood down from his role to become assistant manager at Cymru South outfit Afan Lido.

Downes and Walker previously worked together in the 2016/2017 season.

Walker has previous playing experience of playing in the Welsh League with AFC Porth.

Announcing their appointment on social media, Porthcawl’s statement read: “We are absolutely delighted to announce that Kevin Downes and Ray Walker will be the 1st Team Managers for the season.

“What better way to try to return to Welsh League football than having ex-players leading the way.”

As a result of their appointment, both Jack Brooks and Joe Downes have returned to the club after spending time away.

Carter Munro, Jorge Crofts and Kris Shore had all committed to the club prior to their appointment.

Goalkeeper Aaron Jones followed departing manager Barrie to the Marston Stadium.

Porthcawl have also merged with South Wales Spartans, a disabled and mental health team. The club will now come under the Porthcawl umbrella and will be known as Porthcawl Town Spartans.
