Wales’ Jess Fishlock has been linked with a move to Women’s Super League side Reading.
The 33-year-old had been sidelined by a knee injury she suffered in June 2019 and has yet to feature in Wales’ qualifying campaign for EURO 2022.
Fishlock has had minimal game time since recovering from her injury and has had limited match action due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Cardiff-born star is back in the United Kingdom and on the search for a new home, albeit a temporary one, to help her international prospects.
“For me especially, with the qualifiers that we have, I have to play right now, so I am home and I am looking for a short-term loan,” revealed the OL Reign midfielder to BBC Wales Sport.
“I have to play, I haven’t played in 13 months and we have qualifiers in six weeks.
“If I don’t play now I can’t play in those qualifiers and then by the time we come back in the US I’d have been out for 18 months and I don’t know who comes back from that.
“The WSL is going to have a really competitive season I think.”
After Fishlock spoke to the BBC, later reports came out of her possible destination.
Women’s football outlet Our Game Magazine says that Reading is the most likely destination for one of Wales’ key players.
A moving to Reading, would end an eight-year exile from the English top flight.
Fishlock hasn’t played in the Women’s Super League since 2012, after playing for Bristol Academy.
Reading, who were previously managed by Welsh national team manager Jayne Ludlow, have four players already on their books.
Angharad James, Lily Woodham, Rachel Rowe and captain Natasha Harding all play their club football with the Royals.
Fishlock and her teammates will be competing for a place in the Wales squad next month in the EURO 2022 qualifiers.
Jayne Ludlow’s side are due to play group leaders Norway in Oslo on Tuesday, 22 September.
