Colwyn Bay dealt a blow as top scorer Mitch Bryant departs for Bury

Colwyn Bay’s preparations for the season have been disrupted after forward Mitch Bryant left the club.

The 29-year-old who scored 14 goals and had 12 assists is joining Bury AFC, who are a phoenix version of Bury.

Bryant’s departure from Llanelian Road, leaves a considerable gap in their squad, after finishing as their top scorer in the Cymru North last season.

Commenting on his star man’s departure, manager Craig Hogg said: “‘I’m disappointed but understand why Mitch has come to his decision, as it happens at this level of our game.

“Mitch was fantastic for us last season, but he’s now opted to join a club closer to home in England.

“I thank him for what he did for us at Colwyn Bay FC, I won’t forget it and we wish him well indeed.

“Midfield player Kieran Nolan has now decided to remain within the English system and will now not be joining us at the Bay.

“We were really looking forward to seeing him in a Bay shirt this campaign, but circumstances have now dictated a change in his situation, which is understandable.

“Both players leave us on good terms, and we wish them all the best with their football next season.”

Bryant is confirmed whilst Nolan is also expected to join Bury according to the North Wales Pioneer.

Both players join Bury with the league having a start date, compared to the Cymru Leagues, which still doesn’t permit friendlies against other teams.

“Mitch leads the line with his experience and helps bring others into play, I’ve no doubt the fans will love him,” commented Bryant’s new manager Andy Welsh.

The experience Mitch has is very important and will add to the spine of our team both on and off the field.

“He’s had a good career in non-league but I can tell that he’s desperate to kick on again.

“As top scorer for Colwyn last season, we feel this signing could be a great fit for club and player.

“I can already tell when speaking to Mitch that the opportunity to play in front of a huge crowd will be one he thrives upon.”
