Aberystwyth Town sign ex-Citizen Steven Hewitt
Aberystwyth Town have announced the signing of attacking midfielder Steven Hewitt.
He was most recently on the books of Hume City in the Australian NPL Victoria.
Hewitt, 26, made ten appearances for the Anatolians last season, scoring twice.
The midfielder began his career at Burnley, where he featured twice for the first team, before having spells for the likes of Chester, Southport and Accrington Stanley.
Hewitt also has Cymru Premier experience, having spent two seasons at Bangor City, where he scored seven goals in 27 appearances.
Upon signing for the Seasiders, Hewitt told the club website: “I spoke to a couple of teams, but when I spoke to Gav he told me about his style of football and his ambitions for the season ahead and it sounded perfect for the way I want to play – I knew it was the right club for me.
“I had also spoken to Barnsey (Sam Barnes) and Willow (Marc Williams) and they both said how great a club it is and that I’d be a perfect fit, so it was an easy choice.
“For me, the main goal this season is getting a European spot. That was made clear to me by everyone I spoke to at the club and I feel that with our squad and coaching staff, we have enough experience and quality to achieve that.
“I can’t wait to get started and help this great club get back to where it belongs!”
Gavin Allen, promoted to the club’s first team manager ahead of next season, has made ten new additions to his Seasiders squad this summer.
Owain Jones and Jamie Veale have joined from Merthyr Town, while Sam Barnes, Harri Rowe, Jack Rimmer, Rhys Davies, Steff Davies, Jonathan Evans and George Harry have also signed for Aberystwyth.
On the signing of Steven Hewitt, the Seasiders manager said, “Steve is a fantastic signing for us who had numerous clubs after his signature.
“I’m over the moon to sign a player with so much quality and experience – he’s a great addition to our squad.”
Allen has also had positive news in the form of the contract extentions of key first-team players Marc Williams and Lee Jenkins.
Aberystwyth Town begin their 2020-2021 Cymru Premier campaign at home against Cardiff Metropolitan University on 12 September.
